Support Groups for Siblings of Children with ASD

Updated: June 2026.

Research has shown that siblings of children with ASD face socio-emotional difficulties significantly more often than brothers and sisters of children without neurodivergence. Support groups are the most effective form of psychological support for siblings of children with ASD. A support group helps a child find stability in relationships with other kids who share a similar experience.

🌟 We are enrolling children ages 8+ who have siblings with ASD for group sessions designed to create a warm atmosphere of support and understanding.

Sessions will take place on Tuesdays at 15:00 starting July 25.

This group will be led by Anastasia Tambovtseva — a Category II psychologist and member of the National Autistic Society (UK). Anastasia specializes in behavior correction and skill development for neurotypical children and children with ASD.

Why is it important to work not only with children who have ASD, but also with their brothers and sisters? The interaction between neurotypical children and children with special needs has its own dynamics, and it affects everyone involved.

Because of the behavioral characteristics of children with ASD, their brothers and sisters may experience emotions such as anger, frustration, shame, fear, and a desire to socially withdraw. For neurotypical children in this situation, support from friends and loved ones is very important, but loved ones do not always know how to provide it properly. In such cases, our group sessions can be especially helpful.

The sessions will help your child become more resilient, sociable, confident, and self-aware. Group sessions focus on teaching children emotional regulation skills, behavior management, and psychological self-help. A support group is a place where a child realizes they are not alone, where they can openly discuss their feelings and problems and be understood by everyone in the group. In our groups, children gain knowledge and tools that help them cope with difficulties.
