Questions & answers

Answer: Yes, of course. We recommend telling your child that Animago coaches may use characters “if it makes talking more comfortable and interesting for you.” You can show them the coach’s photo or profile on the Animago site ahead of time.

Most sessions happen one-on-one with your child and last about 50 minutes. After each session, your specialist sends parents recommendations and helpful materials.

Animago coaches build respectful, validating conversations with every child. We don’t lecture from an authority position—we offer emotional coaching and, as equals, teach modern self-regulation skills.

First and foremost, we create a safe, comfortable space where your child can stay open to learning about themselves and the world. An Animago CBT coach uses about 20 techniques from cognitive-behavioral therapy in each session—including validation and normalization, emotional and cognitive restructuring, mindfulness and meditation, behavioral experiments, imaginal exposure, and role-play.

Each session, the coach teaches one research-backed self-help skill to help your child regulate emotions and behavior better.

At Animago, all coaches fall into three tiers: Specialist, Expert, Supervisor.

Specialist — a licensed child coach with additional training in evidence-based approaches for kids, such as low-intensity cognitive-behavioral therapy.

Expert — a licensed child coach with formal CBT training and extensive experience using evidence-based methods with children.

Supervisor — a licensed child coach trained in CBT and other internationally recognized evidence-based models who also supervises Animago specialists.

We recommend choosing first based on what fits your budget.

All Animago coaches are qualified for typical childhood concerns. If your child is going through something severe or potentially risky, we recommend an Expert or Supervisor.

Animago coaches are licensed coaches educated in Russia. Many are cognitive-behavioral coaches trained in CBT programs at home and abroad. Many also practice coaching when it fits. We also have coaches who specialize in ASD and ADHD.

When working with clients outside Russia, our coaches use coaching methods. Most of our team are CBT coaches and licensed coaches trained in evidence-based counseling—but they may not meet licensing standards in every country where a client lives. Animago therefore offers coaching, which does not include assessment or psychotherapeutic methods used for specific mental health challenges.

We recommend offering a meeting with a CBT coach gently—without forcing, scaring, or shaming your child. For example: “I know things have been hard lately. I want you to have as much support as you need. I think a coach could offer help and useful tips—you might feel lighter and more confident. We could try it and see if it’s interesting for you… Would you like to?”

An Animago coach isn’t someone only “special” kids see—they’re a forward-thinking expert for kids who want to build their best life, stay mindful and independent, take responsibility for themselves, feel confident, and get an edge.

We hold sessions on Zoom—a reliable video platform. Before your consultation, your coach will send you a link to join. Just click it—no extra Zoom account setup is required. If you can’t connect for technical reasons, we’ll reschedule your session at no charge.

“The character made it easy for my daughter to open up. It helped us through her grandfather’s death. After a few sessions she was herself again — and loved every meeting.”

I’m a pediatrician and have worked with the Animago team for a long time—with real pleasure. Their unique approach through a character is especially valued by parents of preschoolers. It helps connect with very young patients even online. Thank you for your work!
